End of 2019 season!

We had a lovely Presentation Evening on 13th July, with lots of yummy food kindly donated by the parents and a super Disco by Simon of Mirror Image Discos. The event was well attended by players, parents and officials.

All players received a certificate and a medal to mark their team's position in the League. Congratulations to Swifts for coming first! Kingfishers were second and Wagtails third.

We also have medals to the girl in each team who had the most votes as 'Girl of the Match' by the opposition teams.

Players had voted for the girl in their own team who had made the best contribution to the team this year. These girls received the Players' Player trophies.

Everyone has played well this season, and all have improved considerably. This is why we run the Little League – and of course so that everyone can have fun. Team Managers presented trophies to the Most Improved Player in their team.

We gave awards to the winners of the Shooting Competitions on the Fun Day. We have some excellent shooters in our Little League!

Finally we gave Leavers' Certificates to all the girls in Year 6, for whom this is their last year of Little League.

We hope to see everyone else in next Year's Little League! Probably on 28th March for Team Building, but watch this space.

See how happy everyone is, now that it is all over!

The photo was taken at the Fun Day on 6th July, when we mixed the teams up just for fun, and got the parents and team managers to play as well.

Next season: the first commitment for returning players is the Team Building Event, pencilled in for Saturday 28th March in the afternoon, subject to change!

We think that the dates for try-outs and beginners' coaching will be Saturday afternoons 7th, 14th and 21st March. This could change and probably will!

What is not to like?

Since 2003 Bournville & Selly Oak Little League has been a recognised Little League under the auspices of Birmingham City Council Sports Development and follows the Fair Play Charter and (so far as is possible) the rules that were laid down for the running of Little Leagues.

Little League Netball has been established in Birmingham for well over twenty years and aims to provide the opportunity for local girls (school years 3, 4, 5 and 6) to play supervised netball at as low a cost as possible.  Our beautiful kit is loaned free on a small deposit. Girls of all abilities are welcome to take part, especially those who have not played netball before, as the aim of the Little League is to provide girls with safe, highly organised and supervised netball at little cost. The League is organised and run by an experienced teacher who holds a Level 2 Coaching qualification from England Netball and is a former County netball player. All our adult personnel have been subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Check (DBS). Our Safeguarding Officer is Mrs Rhiannon Plews.

Our Little League has a number of teams named after British birds. The Little League is set up each year in the Spring Term, and plays in the Summer Term. The cost is £20.00 per year. Kit is loaned on a modest deposit. Our events are normally held on Saturday mornings. We use the Spring Term for welcoming new players and integrating them into teams. In the Summer Term we play league matches most Saturdays.

So far as possible the teams are managed, coached and umpired by senior players from Birmingham City Netball Club. Little League players are encouraged to join the Club: either as Juniors while they are still in Years 3 - 6, or as seniors when they leave the Little League as they enter Year 7.

Congratulations to theSwifts who have again won the league  this year! For those who did not do quite so well, remember that Little League is not primarily about winning, but about learning the game and developing skills. Everyone has progressed well this year. Some who in March had never played Netball before have now joined our linked Netball Club and will be playing Intermediate League with us.
